New Study Shows LED Headlights Save Lives

You could trace the history of cars through the history of safety features. One recent improvement has been the switch from halogen headlights to LED headlights. A new report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows this. CBS Miami reports.

The IIHS has urged the auto industry to switch to these lights for some time. They are an improvement because they can illuminate the road much further than halogens. The advocates say that this extra light distance gives drivers more reaction time to avoid night accidents.

Fortunately, car makers are taking notice and putting these lights into a number of 2021 models. Furthermore, they are also adding sensors to tell when another car is coming in front of you. One of the complaints that people have about LED headlights is that they can be too bright on high. High Beam Assist features can turn high beams on and off automatically to maximize visibility and safety.

We must sound one note of caution. If you change the height of your vehicle then you will need to get these lights adjusted to the new height. There have been cases of lifted trucks causing accidents because their headlights shine directly into the cab of oncoming vehicles. Fortunately, this is an easy fix for the mechanically inclined.
