Van Full Of Children Crashes Into Restaurant Wall
A traffic accident on Wednesday afternoon sent a minivan loaded with children into a brand-new restaurant in North Miami.
According to a story that appeared on the CBS Local Miami website, the accident happened just after 2:00 p.m. near the intersection of Northwest 122nd Street and Seventh Avenue.
The driver of the van had been traveling northbound on NW 7th avenue when she says she was cut off by another vehicle that turned in front of her. The minivan driver swerved, causing her vehicle to jump the curb and run into G’s BBQ & Pizza located on the corner.
Video from inside the restaurant shows the moment that the van crashed through the walls of the establishment, narrowly missing three patrons who were inside at the time.
The owner of the restaurant, Fitzgerald Gabriel described having heard a sound like an explosion and then realized it was his restaurant that had been hit. Gabriel and others who were in the area began helping those involved in the crash, including about ten children who were in the van, out of the vehicle. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
The minivan driver, Joyce Durand, was especially grateful that no one was injured. “Everybody’s ok even those people who were inside the restaurant. They were OK and glorified God,” she said.
Miami police have charged the driver who cut off has been cited for making an illegal left turn.
Gabriel and his employees have already begun the process of rebuilding and are planning to reopen as soon as the repairs are complete.
