Nissan Announces Huge Recall
The automaker Nissan has announced the recall of nearly four million of its vehicles due to major safety concerns over airbags or seatbelts, either of which could potentially fail in a crash.
In the company’s announcement, Nissan North America, Inc. indicated that the first safety issue involves a sensor in vehicles that detects if the front passenger seat is occupied. The sensor could incorrectly detect the presence of a child rather than an adult or even think that the seat is empty, thus turn off the airbag function for that seat.
Nissan says the issue affects a number of vehicles for their models including the Maxima, Altima, LEAF, Sentra, Pathfinder and some Infiniti models.
The second issue involving vehicle seat belts and restraints affects approximately 620,000 of Nissan’s Sentra models and their front seat child restraint system in which the air bags may inflate when they shouldn’t.
The company has said that it will be notifying all owners of the affected vehicles and will fix the issues with those cars without any coast to owners.
Vehicle safety is a top priority for not only consumers but for the makers of those automobiles as well. Keeping your family safe is important and when investing that much money in a car, you want to be sure you are safe in assuming that the vehicle you buy is as safe as possible.
