Huge Car Seat Recall by Diono
Car and booster seats manufactured by Washington-based Diono, formerly known as Sunshine Kids Juvenile, has issued a recall. The manufacturer has issued the recall because the car and booster seats may not work properly in the event of a crash.
According to a story which appeared on the Miami CBS local website, under recall are six models including Daino’s Radian R100, Radian R120, Radian RXT, Olympia, Pacifica, and Rainier models. The recall is estimated to include more than a half million units which were sold in the U.S. since 2014.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicated that the issue with the seats occurs when they are secured to the vehicle using a lap belt but not the top tether. For children weighing more than 65 pounds, there is an increased risk of chest injury in the event of a crash. As of this writing, no injuries or fatalities have been reported surrounding the issue with the Diono car and booster seats.
The Diono recall is set to begin on November 22nd. Diono said that the company will be sending owners of the car seats at no cost a kit which will include an energy absorbing pad and a new chest clip.
