Miami Gardens Hit And Run Killed Two

Two people were killed in a hit and run crash that happened in Miami Gardens last month.

CBS Local in Miami reports that the fatal crash took place on Thursday, August 29th at around 11:00 a.m. in the 19500 block of Northwest First Place when a large pickup truck broadsided a smaller pickup.

Authorities say that the larger of the two pickups was heading southbound on Northwest First Place when it ran a stop sign at the intersection at 195th Street at a high rate of speed, striking the smaller truck in the intersection. Nearby surveillance video shows the moment of impact of the large truck hitting the other vehicle with such force that it bounced off of it. The smaller pickup truck was forced against and almost twisted around a nearby light pole.

Eyewitness and area resident, Dee Thomas told CBS reporters that the smaller truck looked as though it was put through a shredder. “It was collapsed,” Thomas said. “Totally collapsed and twisted.”

Miami Gardens Police say that both people inside were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release the names of the victims pending notification of family members.

Video also shows the driver of the suspect vehicle get out of the passenger side door and then without checking to find out if anyone is hurt, flees the scene on foot.

The Miami Gardens Police Department is still searching for the driver in the crash and is asking the public to contact them if they have any information.
