Driver Suffers Heart Attack and Crashes
According to police, the driver of a box truck who died after crashing into a home on Tuesday morning may have suffered from a heart attack. Investigators said in a statement that Julio Gomez, 45, had just packed up his truck and was leaving Dolphin Fisheries, and set out to make a delivery in Palm Beach. At around 5:30 a.m., Gomez was leaving the parking lot of the business and was making a U-Turn. Gomez apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a parked car and an efficiency unit located behind the packing company.
The wheels on the truck were still turning when police officers arrived on the scene. Miami Fire Rescue crews transported Gomez to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
After the incident, investigators say that the home is not structurally sound and is not fit for occupation. The residents, Sheilet Green and her boyfriend had been asleep at the time of the crash and are currently staying with family members as repairs are made to their home.
Gomez leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter.
Accidents of any kind can happen at any time. While the cause of the accident seems clear, sometimes there are other circumstances that can contribute to an accident that results in personal injury, property damage or even death. When something happens to your home through no fault of your own, it can be devastating. Insurance policies cover some of the damage, but what about the cost of medical expenses from injuries or what it takes to get your life back on track after such a devastating loss.
