Driver of Black Chevy Impala Collides Head-On With Another Vehicle
Miami-Dade law enforcement agencies are currently investigating a head-on collision involving three vehicles in Miami Gardens on Monday morning that left two people seriously hurt. Investigators are asking any possible eyewitnesses to come forward with any details that might help them in the case.
CBS Local in Miami reports that the crash happened at approximately 9:00 A.M. within the 20900 block of NW 2nd Avenue just south of the county line where, according to police, one of the motorists in a black Impala traveling northbound lost control of his vehicle. His car crossed the center median and collided with a southbound vehicle head-on.
Authorities believe that one of the vehicles involved in the horrific rollover crash had been involved in a drag race at the time.
Eyewitness Victoria Jones was just one car length away when the accident unfolded in front of her. If she had not swerved sharply to the left, she and her mother might have been killed.
“It happened so quick that you don’t expect those things to be happening,” Jones told CBS’ Peter D’Oench. “You never expect something like that to happen.”
Aerial footage showed the two severely damaged vehicles. Authorities say that firefighters with the Miami-Dade Fire Department had to extricate at least one of the crash victims from their car. Authorities have not released the identities of the crash victims or their current condition at this time.
Nelly Jones, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department, told members of the press that so far they cannot confirm exactly what happened and that investigators are still in the “early stages of this investigation.”
Police are asking any eyewitnesses to the incident to contact police at (305) 474-6473. If they choose to remain anonymous, they may call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
