Driver Killed while Assisting a Stranded Motorist
A road ranger has been killed while attempting to assist a stranded motorist on the Florida Turnpike.
According Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, Joe Sanchez, the victim is identified as Andres Garcia Boligan, 47.
The accident occurred on Tuesday in the northbound lanes of SW 120th Street on Tuesday when Boligan was slowing traffic down in order to lend assistance to a red Mustang that was stranded across the road and off to the shoulder. A dump truck was unable to slow down to avoid an accident.
Boligan attempted to get out in time but was unable to do so. The truck ran over Boligan and continued until it struck a light pole.
The driver of the dump truck is identified as 40-year-old Sergio Gonzalez.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that the accident is still currently under investigation. Officials have not said if Gonzalez will face any charges in relation to the incident or what those charges may be.
