The Driver Of A Jeep Involved In A Hit-And-Run Accident Has Been Apprehended By Police

Hit-and-run incidents can be frightening and dangerous, especially for victims left behind.

Fort Lauderdale Police have arrested a suspected hit-and-run driver after a pursuit and a rollover crash in Fort Lauderdale last week.

NBC Miami reports that at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9th, Fort Lauderdale Police dispatchers received a call about a collision between a Jeep and a golf cart. The person driving the Jeep was reported to have fled the scene of the accident. The collision occurred near the intersection of Fort Lauderdale and Center Avenue and fled the scene of the crash.

Police officers later spotted the vehicle and gave pursuit.  Assisted by both Broward County Sheriff’s deputies and Florida Highway Patrol units, police ended the chase of the suspect by using a precision immobilization technique.

During the maneuver, the Florida Highway Patrol cruiser tapped the back of the Jeep. The impact caused the suspect to lose control, and the vehicle spun out of control. The Jeep, heavily loaded with luggage on its roof, tipped over onto its passenger side.

Police were able to take the suspect into custody without the suspect resisting any further. An ambulance was called to the scene, and the suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The suspect is expected to recover.

Fort Lauderdale authorities have not released the identity of the suspect. According to a statement issued by police, the suspect is facing multiple charges including aggravated battery, fleeing the scene of an accident and felony eluding.
