Photo Captures Last Moments Before Hit and Run Crash

Authorities believe that they have apprehended the driver who was behind the wheel in a fatal hit and run crash that happened in Fort Lauderdale at the beginning of July.

According to a recent article that appeared on NBCMiami.com, the accident occurred on July 1st when 58-year-old Miguel Soler of New Jersey was struck and killed just moments after his wife, Vivian Soler, took a photo of him on Los Olos Boulevard.

Vivian Soler said that the driver did not stop and kept on going. Police indicate that the SUV was located a distance away from the fatal crash.

Ross Weiner, an assistant state attorney from the Broward State Attorney’s Office, indicated on Friday that he had informed Robert Pelier, the attorney for the Soler family, that charges have been filed against Regina Ann Goodrich, 25, who is a resident of Broward County.

Weiner said in a statement that one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality was filed against Goodrich. In the state of Florida, the charge is considered a first degree felony.  Goodrich is scheduled to surrender next week prior to her appearance in court.

Pelier said in a phone interview that Goodrich having left the scene of the fatal accident was an, “inexcusable, unacceptable, grotesque disregard for human life.”

Mrs. Soler has indicated that she was relieved that the hit-and-run driver is being held accountable.

Without a doubt, Ann Goodrich broke the law when she fled the scene of the accident. In every state in the United States, the law is abundantly clear: If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, you must stay at the scene. You are also required to render aid if there are any serious injuries involved if possible. Anyone who is involved in an accident also must not leave the scene unless they are told they can do so by a law enforcement officer.

There are serious consequences for leaving the scene of any accident, and because this one involved a fatality, the court is likely to support the Soler family.
