Longtime Customer Crashes Through Local Coffee Shop
Walter’s Coffee Shop, located at 17009 South Dixie Highway, was established in 1965. It has been a staple of the Miami community for decades, serving, not just coffee, but also waffles, omelets, and breakfast quesadillas. But, as WSVN recently reported, the coffee shop was affected by a freak accident this week.
Last Monday, around 2.45 p.m., just as the mainly breakfast-and-brunch-focused restaurant was preparing to close at 3 p.m., a Mazda 5 minivan lost control on the road and crashed into the front of Walter’s Coffee Shop.
Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded promptly to reports of the accident. They found that the driver, a longtime customer of the coffee shop, had driven completely through the building, causing untold thousands of dollars in property damage.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the event. But, as WPLG reported, one customer that had been inside the restaurant was taken to a nearby hospital, but that was purely done as a precaution.
The owner of the shop reported the damages as “bad.”
The past year has been especially bad for small service businesses, such as restaurants and coffee shops. Miraculously, Walter’s has stayed open through the health crisis of 2020. We hope this more recent difficulty won’t sink this Miami staple.
