97-Year-Old Accident Victim Dies Thursday

Maria McEwen, 97 years old, who was struck by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s car on Wednesday, died Thursday while at the Halifax Medical Center.

According to investigators, McEwen was walking through a parking lot on her way to a store when a patrol car driven by Trooper Gabriel Keyes of the Florida Highway Patrol struck the elderly shopper. Trooper Keyes claims he did not see the older woman. The initial accident resulted in injuries to McEwen’s legs for which she was taken to Halifax Medical Center for treatment. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
