Pedestrian Fatality in Wilton Manors

indexAn injured man has died after having been run over early Thursday morning in Wilton Manors.

According to Broward Sheriff’s investigators, the man has been identified Raymond King.  King’s last known whereabouts were at the Hunters Club at approximately 11:00 p.m.  The Hunter’s Club is a local bar and is only a 10 minute walk from King’s home. Investigators are still uncertain as to how King became injured in the first place.

Blood evidence from the scene of the fatal accident suggests that King had walked near the sidewalk along east 6th Avenue.  It appears at some point that he sat or fell down in the middle of the northbound lane of the street.

King was run over by a vehicle traveling northbound and estimated to be moving at approximately 30 miles per hour, according to sheriff’s investigators. The force of the impact with the vehicle sent Price’s body approximately 37 feet onto the grass on the east side of the street.

The driver of the vehicle did not remain on scene of the accident.

Emergency crews were called to the scene where King was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:12 a.m. by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

The person responsible for this man’s death will be held accountable once they are caught.  At that time, they will be facing some very serious penalties for leaving the scene of an accident in the State of Florida. According to Florida Statute 316.027, if someone is ever involved in an accident, and there are personal injuries, or a fatality, then they immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the crash, or as close to it as they can possibly can do so safely.   When someone is convicted of leaving the scene of an accident, it can mean up to 30 years in prison.
