Van Flips After Police Chase, One Hospitalized

The National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) reports that more than 10,000 people are killed each year in rollover crashes. This means that a total of 33% of all motor vehicle fatalities occurring annually in the US are the result of rollover accidents which involve a single vehicle. The NHTSA asserts that even in the case of rollover crashes, motorists and passengers are 75% less likely to be killed if they wear a seatbelt.

According to a story appearing on Miami’s CBS local affiliate station website, one person has been hospitalized after they lost control of their van, which rolled over during the crash on Tuesday.

Investigators say that the accident happened in Northwest Miami-Dade at NW 53rd Street and 17th Avenue. Police say that the driver was being pulled over by an officer on a motorcycle for failure to obey a traffic signal. The officer attempted to pull over the driver of the van, who attempted to elude police. The driver lost control and crashed. After the crash, the driver of the van attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

The driver was transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash. Neither the driver’s identity nor their current condition has been released.
