Four Girls Injured in Golf Cart Accident
Four young girls between the ages of 12 – 14 were injured in an accident involving a golf cart in Cutler Bay on Sunday night.
According to an article which appeared on the NBC affiliate station in Miami, the accident happened in the 8000 block of Southwest 211th Lane in Cutler Bay. Investigators are still trying to determine the exact details surrounding the accident.
One of the accident victims, a 12-year-old girl, was in and out of consciousness before being taken to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue officials want to remind members of the public that drivers and passengers in golf carts and similar vehicles wear seatbelts and are subject to the rules of the road as other vehicles are.
Federal agencies such as the Consumer Products Safety Commission estimates that there are 15,000 golf cart accidents resulting in injury each year. Even though they only reach a top speed of approximately 40 miles per hour and run on battery power, accidents can still happen. For young people, golf carts are a temptation and they may be tempted to take risks that others with the benefit of age and experience wouldn’t. An accident may also be caused by a mechanical failure with the cart itself, or from other hazards of the road.
