Two People Are In The Hospital After A Head-On Collision With A Truck In Fiesta Key

Head-on collisions are one of the most dangerous and violent types of accidents, especially if the head-on collision is part of a multi-vehicle crash. Such a dangerous head-on collision occurred near the Channel 2 Bridge on Tuesday. Τhe accident has sent at least two people to the hospital. One of the injured passengers currently in the hospital is a child.

The Miami Herald reported on its website that the crash happened along U.S. Highway 1 near mile marker 70  at approximately 2:00 p.m. in Fiesta Key. 

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that a commercial box truck and a Dodge Ram pickup truck collided head-on. The force of the impact caused the box truck to roll over on its side, and a third vehicle ran into a grove of mangrove trees along the side of the highway.

A Monroe County Medical helicopter landed on the roadway to transport one adult and one child to a hospital in Miami-Dade County for treatment of injuries they suffered in the crash.  Officials had not released their identities or current condition at the time of the report.

According to a statement via Twitter, the Monroe County Sheriff’s  Office indicated that more people might have been injured in the collision.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 remained closed until just after 3:00 p.m. while vehicles and debris were cleared from the road. 

The Florida Highway Patrol will be investigating the crash.  The investigation is active and ongoing.
