The Father, Son, and Their Dog Are All Safe After A Plane Crash

A father and son and their dog are going to be alright after their single-engine plane crashed into a tree on Sunday morning.

The Sun-Sentinel reported on its website that Jason Dougherty, 47. and Caleb Dougherty, 22 of Garden City, Kansas were heading from Kansas City to the Florida Panhandle for a vacation when their Beechcraft Bonanza plane went down.

Jason Dougherty was piloting the small aircraft when it crashed nose-first into a tree just outside a home in Okaloosa County at approximately 10:00 A.M. The results of the crash were captured on video. The footage shows the plane nose down and in a tree just a few feet away from the back deck of a dwelling. Fortunately, neither the passengers of the plane nor any residents were injured or harmed from the crash

A spokesperson for the Oskaloosa County Sheriff’s Office stated their Facebook page that the two men and their Labrador Retriever “somehow survived without a scratch.”

Area resident Beth Cann told Sun-Sentinel reporter Doug Phillips that her son had just returned home after taking his bicycle to an area convenience store, and he told her about the plane crash.

“He came back and said, ‘Oh, by the way, there’s an airplane in a tree,’” Cann said.

The Okaloosa  County Sheriff’s Office has notified both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about the crash.  Both agencies will be investigating what caused the plane to crash.
