Sheriff’s Deputy Killed In Irma Crash

According to a story that appeared on the NBC Miami website, a sheriff’s deputy in Central Florida was one of two people killed while supplies were being gathered for a shelter designated to help people ride out the storm.

Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the fatal crash happened on Sunday morning in Hardee County. In a statement released to the press, FHP said that Deputy Julie bridges, a 13-year veteran of the Florida Department of Corrections died in a crash with another corrections article who was heading to work.

NBC affiliate, WFLA-TV reported that Bridges had been returning home to get more items before heading back to the shelter.

No information about the second victim in the crash was released at the time of the report and authorities have not indicated whether conditions of the upcoming storm played any role in the fatal crash.
