Roadside Assist Turns into Two Shatter Legs for Taxi Driver
A taxi driver was seriously injured in an accident that left him with two broken legs when he was struck by an alleged drunk driver.
Initial police reports indicated that taxi driver, Jocelyn Prophet, had lost his legs as the result of the accident, but family members have now clarified that they were broken severely. The family remains hopeful for his full recovery, but it will be a long term process.
Miami Police have arrested and charged 31-year-old Oskar Ivan Zarate with DUI with serious injuries. He is accused of having struck Prophet he was assisting a fellow cab driver with their vehicle that had broken down. The accident happened along Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 50th Terrace at approximately 5:50 a.m.
Prophet was transported by rescuers to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Zarate was also taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, but was treated and released. Zarate is now in jail awaiting trial.
