Man Flees Hospital to Escape Arrest—Unstoppable?

Elvert BarnesPolice were called in early Monday morning when Michael Burcks was caught trespassing at Bayfront Park on Biscayne Boulevard. In order to escape arrest, Burcks jumped into the water and had to be apprehended by the Coast Guard. Because his escape attempt resulted in injury, Burcks was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Crisis Center for treatment.

Hours later, the police were chasing Burcks again after he fled the hospital to escape arrest. Burcks then went on what can only be described as a rampage through the streets in order to evade police.

First, he attempted to hijack a car. The driver was a woman traveling northbound on NW 7 Avenue. She was about to speed away. Then, moments later, Burks encountered a man with a bicycle. He punched the man in the face and stole the bicycle to get away from the police.

Meanwhile, the woman that escaped the attempted carjacking was encouraged by bystanders to report the incident to the police, who were just a few blocks south of her position. So she made a u-turn, where the escaping Mr. Burcks just happens to hit her car!

The police caught up with Burcks and had to use a taser to get him in cuffs. After a prolonged struggle, Burcks was eventually arrested and charged with attempted carjacking, strong arm robbery, battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest with violence.
