Man Accused of DUI Manslaughter Surrenders to Police

A man has surrendered himself to the Broward County authorities in connection to a charge against him for DUI manslaughter.

In an article that appeared on the NBC Miami website, Edgar Reyes, 35, surrendered himself to authorities at the Broward County Courthouse for his part in a DUI rollover crash that killed his girlfriend, Martha Hernandez Rondon back in April of this year.

According to police, Reyes had been driving on State Road 7 near I-595 on April 8. He lost control of the vehicle, with the car rolling over multiple times.  Rondon, who had been riding with Reyes at the time, was a passenger in the vehicle. She was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Rondon was the mother of two teenage boys

Reyes had ceased communication with is attorney just after he had made arrangements to turn himself in to authorities.  Because Reyes did not have a valid driver’s license and is not a legalized U.S. citizen, authorities believed him to be a flight risk.

According to Davie Police, Reyes was being held on $130,000 bond.

There really is no excuse for getting behind the wheel of a car after you’ve been drinking. You not only put yourself in danger, but also risk the lives of those who ride or share the road with you as well.

Breaking this rule is against all common sense and it’s against the law. When someone drinks and drives an accident that comes as a result can be tragic as it was in this case. Because the driver fled the scene and was in hiding for several months makes this case even more devastating to the two young men who lost their mother.  Matters are even more complicated because this driver was unlicensed and undocumented to be in the country. In a case like this, surviving family members need the advice of an attorney rather than going it alone.  An attorney can help them to ensure that justice is served and can help them to at least try to piece their lives together once again.

If you live in the Miami area and if you or someone you love has been injured or if a loved one has tragically lost their life in an accident, get an attorney who can ensure that your rights are protected. An attorney can help see that justice is served and potentially help you to receive compensation for your injuries or loss. Such compensation may be used to cover any hospital bills and medical treatment, damages, or the pain of having to come up with funeral costs. Such concerns are best handled through the advice of a legal professional.
