High Speed Chase through Several Counties Leads to Arrest

A police chase that started in Collier County ended with three subjects in custody in Broward County.

According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, the pursuit began on the eastbound Alligator Alley just before 11 a.m. Tuesday with officers pursuing a vehicle the suspects were driving just after an alleged burglary in north Naples.

The chase was briefly suspended as the vehicle drove at a high rate of speed onto Interstate 595. A Channel 7 Skyforce HD helicopter continued to follow the vehicle as it crossed into Davie and then Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale Police officers resumed the chase of the suspect vehicle in a residential neighborhood. The three men attempted to flee on foot in an effort to evade police near 33rd way and Northwest Eighth Court by going through backyards, scaling fences. Officers did manage, however to capture all three suspects.

About a mile away from the scene, two Fort Lauderdale Police cruisers responding to the pursuit were involved in a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Sistrunk Boulevard. Witnesses in the usually quiet neighborhood where the accident occurred were shocked at the unusual amount of commotion.

Fort Lauderdale Police have not yet released any information on the charges towards the suspects.

High-speed driving and police pursuits can happen at any time. These chases can be extremely dangerous, especially when emergency vehicles are rushing in pursuit of someone trying to evade the law or emergency response to an accident. Incidents involving emergency vehicles can lead to serious accidents that often involve damage of personal property, personal injuries, or death. Sometimes those injuries can happen not only to the officers of the law and the suspects that are in the chase, but also to unsuspecting civilians as well. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can lead to tragic consequences.
