Gas Pump Catches Fire After Crash

In a scene straight out of almost anyone’s nightmare, a gas pump at a Chevron station in Lauderhill burst into flame after being hit by a car.

The CBS Local station affiliate in Miami reported a story that Monday’s crash happened at the Chevron gas station located on State Road 7 and Northwest 16th Street.

The driver in the accident was exiting the gas station, turning widely. She did not notice an 18-wheeler in the center lane. Both vehicles collided. The female driver overcorrected after impact and sent her vehicle into the gas pump and two additional vehicles.

The clerk inside the convenience store, Arif Rahman, who was at the counter at the time of the crash, managed to hit an emergency stop button to all of the pumps at the station. Firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire at approximately 1:15 and were able to quickly get the fire under control.

Both the female driver and her 11-year-old daughter, Roxanne Desravines, were uninjured in the crash. Authorities state that there were no other reported injuries from the accident.

Lauderhill Police Department investigators believed initially that the driver may have hit the gas rather than the brake just before the crash. So far, however, the accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed in the case.
