Driver Survives One Crash Only To Get Killed By Another Car

A driver was killed on the Florida Turnpike after surviving a semi-trailer truck crash after he got out of his vehicle. The Miami Herald reports.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes around the 74 mile post in Boca Raton on the border of Broward and Palm Beach counties.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was sitting or lying down in the left lane after the first crash and got hit. The driver that hit him stopped at the scene and gave a report. She and her passenger had minor injuries after the strike.

The area was closed for six hours during the investigation and halted rush hour traffic. Several cars made illegal U-turns into the other lanes to avoid the traffic. Traffic had to be diverted to the Sawgrass Expressway.

There’s no mention in the article about the semi-truck driver or their condition, but it’s likely they weren’t injured.

There’s a lot to unpack in this case, but there are some safety tips we can offer. If you are in a crash on a major road like the turnpike, move to the shoulder or off the road if you can. Staying in the lane puts you at risk of getting hit.

This also goes for doing roadside repairs. Many people die changing tires each year because they stick out into the roadway while doing the work.
