Dade County Officer Injured in Crash
It doesn’t matter who you are or who you work for; when a person chooses to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol they can end up getting into some serious trouble once they’re caught.
In a story that appeared on CBS Local in Miami, Justin Bieber’s head of security, 32-year-old Michael Arana, has been charged with two counts of DUI after he allegedly rear-ended a Miami-Dade police cruiser in The Hammocks on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that the accident happened at SW 88th Street and SW 152nd Avenue when Arana’s vehicle rammed into the back of the police cruiser, crushing it completely.
One of the officers was injured in the crash and had to be airlifted to an area hospital. His partner was also transported to the hospital. Officials have said that both officers were treated and released.
Police said that Arana attempted to flee the scene of the crash after the accident but he was stopped by other Miami-Dade officers at SW 88th Street and SW 157th Avenue. The officers had been responding to another unrelated call when they received the request for assistance. The second set of officers was able to stop Arana’s vehicle.
According to Miami-Dade, officers were unable to administer a breathalyzer test to Arana because of injuries to his mouth. Arana refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test; however, when questioned by officers, he did admit that he had been drinking prior to the crash.
In addition to facing a DUI charge, Arana is also facing multiple counts of having left the scene of an accident with injuries.
