Biscayne Bay Accident Ruled Hit-And-Run

Hit-and-run accidents don’t just happen on the roadways. They happen with any kind of vehicle, including boats and personal watercraft. A recent deadly accident in Biscayne Bay has been deemed a hit-and-run by police. Miami 10 explains.

Police made an arrest in the case yesterday in connection with the boating accident. The accused man is believed to have run over a personal watercraft with his 30-foot boat and struck the rider. He was taken to the hospital and died there.

The incident happened near Miami Marine Stadium and the Rickenbacker Causeway on May 1. Police charged the arrested man with leaving the scene of a boating accident with a fatality, failure to render aid, and failure to report to law enforcement.

Nine people were believed to have been on the boat at the time of the crash, according to the authorities. It is unknown if one of these people tipped the police off to the boat pilot’s location and identity.

Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. A GoFundMe has been set up, and you can find details of that in the link to the news article above.

As the weather continues to warm, boat pilots should reacquaint themselves with their responsibilities, including how to signal, how to avoid personal watercraft, and what to do in case of an accident.
