A Teenage Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By An SUV
It seems so callous that someone could hit another person with their vehicle and simply drive away. That is what happened over the weekend, and now Miami-Dade Police are searching for a woman that they believe is directly involved with a crash that left a teen bicyclist dead.
Station WPLG Channel 10 reported on their website that at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22nd, 14-year-old Ethan Gordon was crossing an intersection at the 10200 block of Collins Avenue in Bal Harbour when he was struck by a northbound motorist driving a silver Kia sedan.
The female driver of the Kia did not stop and did not attempt to render aid to Gordon. Instead, she fled the scene, continuing northbound on Collins then turning to head westbound on 163rd Street.
Eyewitnesses to the accident say it was violent, and Gordon was left “in bad shape.”
Paramedics rushed the teen to an area hospital for treatment. Gordon died a short time later as the result of injuries he suffered in the crash.
A spokesperson for the Miami Police Department said in a statement that they had identified an individual involved in the hit-and-run crash as Luisa Fernanda Ahern. Investigators say that the vehicle sustained significant front end and windshield damage in the collision.
Ahern is currently facing several charges, which include failure to stop after a crash involving serious injury or death as well as vehicular homicide.
The accident is still currently under investigation. Miami-Dade Police detectives are asking anyone with any information as to her current whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477.
