Woman Charged with DUI Manslaughter & Evidence Tampering

The scene of an accident can be a chaotic place, leading to panic and severe misjudgments. A good law firm can help people who get into situations that may appear to be over their heads at first glance.

A 42-year-old Pampona Beach woman struck and killed a motorcyclist in late February, likely while under the influence of intoxicating substances. She not only left the scene of the crime, but also attempted to conceal all evidence that the accident had occurred. In spite of  her efforts, she was arrested soon afterward and charged with not only the manslaughter, but for leaving a scene which involved death, and tampering with the evidence that would reveal what truly happened.

According to the Broward Sherriff’s office, the suspect turned left on a green light and struck a 30-year-old motorcyclist coming from the other direction. Though the biker attempted to stop his vehicle, he still hit the right rear of the suspect’s Ford SUV. The impact caused him to fall into the street. When the police arrived, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene, according to authorities.

The suspect drove home after the accident, leaving the scene behind. When deputies tracked her back to her home, they found her attempting to conceal the evidence by covering her car with a tarp. These additional charges only compound the penalties she may receive for the manslaughter, for leaving the scene, and for being under the influence.
