Two Accidents Involve A Dozen Cars, But No Injuries!

A multi-car crash can be terrifying and even deadly.  On Monday, July 9th, two consecutive morning accidents caused by one driver resulted between 10 -12 vehicles involved in the accident. Almost miraculously, there were no fatalities or live threatening injuries that happened as a result.

In a news story that appeared on the CBS local station in Miami’s website, it was reported that at least two women had to be taken to area hospitals to be treated for injuries they sustained in the crashes.

One of the women, 23-year-old Yailen Sixto, had taken a different route that morning because she was on her way to the passport office when her black Toyota was broadsided by a gray SUV. What looks like an accident where major injuries should have resulted, Sixto only suffered minor cuts and bruises. She told CBS4’s reporter, Peter D’Oench that she feels fortunate to be alive. “It’s crazy that no one passed away because of this,” Sixto said.

According to Hialeah Fire Rescue Captain David Rodriguez, the initial accident happened at approximately 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Okeechobee Road and S.E. 5th Avenue when a female driver struck three vehicles with her own then proceeded on three blocks and struck at least additional six vehicles.

Investigators believe that the woman who was driving may have been suffering from health issues at the time of the chain reaction crashes. “It was very lucky that no one else was injured,” Rodriguez said.

Authorities have not released the name or any further details about the woman who caused the two separate accidents and whether or not she will face charges in connection with the crash.
