Traffic Stop Leads To Police Shooting

While some Florida residents feel safer with the state’s stand your ground laws, such legislation, may embolden some people to take unwise risks.

That may have been what happened during a routine traffic stop conducted by Sheriff’s deputies in Orlando which ended in a motorist being shot.

According to a story appearing on the CBS local website in Miami, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies in an unmarked cruiser pulled over a motorist on Wednesday night near Orlando.

Spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Tejada-Monforte, said that the driver of a pickup truck got out of his vehicle and pointed a gun at deputies. Officers fired on the armed motorist.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The man, whose name has not been released, underwent surgery.

There was a woman who was also in the pickup truck at the time of the shooting. She was not injured in the incident.  Law enforcement has not released the names of either the man or the woman.

The three sheriff’s deputies who were involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the case is under review by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
