Miami Bus Accident Injures Seven

An accident on Tuesday morning involving a pickup truck and a Broward County transit bus has sent seven people to the hospital.

At approximately 9 a.m. on West Broward Boulevard and 27th Avenue while the bus was stopped to pick up passengers, a pickup truck crashed into the bus. Eyewitnesses told reporters that the impact was hard enough to knock some passengers out of their seats.

According to reports, the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the accident, transporting six bus passengers to Broward General Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was also transported to the hospital suffering from serious injuries. Witnesses said that the driver was unresponsive until help arrived to transport him to the hospital.

Buses are one of the first choices when looking for affordable transportation. Even though buses are a very safe mode of transportation, accidents can happen and can cause very serious injury or even death. Since most buses lack on-board safety measures, such as seat-belts for passengers, this can put them at risk for serious injuries in the case of an accident. The size and configurations of buses along with the skills of the driver are seen as enough to keep people safe.

Sometimes when passengers are injured aboard a bus they often find themselves being run through a series of hurdles as they try to get answers. Even though injured passengers may be entitled to financial compensation, it can be difficult to recover. This is especially true when the buses are owned and operated by the city government or municipality. In the State of Florida, the guidelines for eligible claims against municipalities are often stricter, allowing for a very limited window for injured passengers to file legal action, even if that accident involves another vehicle that may have been at fault. Case involving buses and other municipal vehicles can also cause problems for attorneys who are unfamiliar with such legal cases.
