Hit-And-Run Driver Found In Miami

The urge to fight or flee can be strong enough for reasonable people to do things that they might not have done otherwise. This appears to possibly be what happened in an accident last week.  Police have found and arrested an alleged hit-and-run driver for his role in a fatal accident that happened in Miami-Dade on Sunday evening.

According to a story appearing on the NBC Miami website, Michael Vernet, 59, has been arrested Thursday on the charge of leaving the scene of a crash causing death.

Vernet is being held in connection to the death of Auguste Friznel, 51, who had been crossing the intersection of Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 103rd Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. As Friznel was crossing the street he was struck by a Toyota RAV4. The vehicle did not stop after hitting Friznel. The entire incident was captured by intersection video surveillance.

Friznel was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he later died as the result of injuries suffered in the hit-and-run crash.

The vehicle on the traffic video has been identified as belonging to Vernet.  Vernet later confessed to arresting officers that he had hit Friznel. Vernet informed police that because he feared his insurance rates going up after the accident, he did not call 911 to report it.

Court records indicate that Vernet is currently being held on $10,000 bond.
