DUI Charge After Tamarac Crash

The investigation of a two-vehicle crash that happened early Sunday morning and that ended in tragedy is being investigated by Broward County Sheriff’s investigators.

Authorities say that Conan Acevedo, 40, had been heading westbound on West McNab Road in an Isuzu SUV at approximately 2:30 a.m. when he ran a red light at the intersection of West McNab and Northwest 70th Avenue. Acevedo’s SUC broadsided a Honda Civic Sedan in the driver’s side door.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as Nicholas Garcia, 18. Garcia had been headed southbound on Northwest 70th Avenue.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene and transported Garcia by BSO Air Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead as the result of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Law enforcement officials indicate that Acevedo exhibited signs of impairment following the crash. A test of Acevdo’s blood alcohol level was 0.18 – more than twice the legal limit. Acevedo was arrested at the scene.

Broward County officials say that the criminal investigation is still underway.
