Driver Crashes Into Group Of Motorcycles, One Rider Dead

Authorities are still unsure as to the cause of an accident when a man drove his pickup truck into a group of motorcyclists on Saturday night.

According to a story appearing on Miami’s CBS Local website, authorities say that a driver crashed into a group of motorcyclists that had stopped along the Florida Turnpike. The crash left one rider dead and injured two others within the group of bikers.

A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement that Sean Marlin, 23, of Sunrise, unexpectedly veered his vehicle off of the roadway veered his pickup truck off the roadway and into the group of motorcyclists who were visiting from Georgia.

Authorities have identified the deceased motorcyclist as John Hawkins, 53, of Atlanta, Georgia. Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Also injured in the accident was Angela Richardson, 52, also from Atlanta. Richardson was transported to an area hospital and is listed as having serious injuries. Another among the injured cyclists is Thomas Nunn, 62, of Smyrna, Georgia. Nunn is said to have only suffered minor injuries. Also with the party was Raphael Holmes, 54, of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Holmes is said to have been uninjured in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation. So far investigators are uncertain whether alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.
