Crash Victim Gets To Thank Those Who Saved His Life

This is the time of year when people reflect on those things that they are thankful for. Nearly the year after a horrific accident that nearly ended in tragedy, three Miami-Dade Police Officers were thanked by the community and by the very man whose life they helped to save.

According to a news story that aired on the CBS Local Miami station and appeared on their website, it all began nearly a year ago in December of 2016. Carlos Luis Aloma was involved in a crash that left his car in overturned and on fire.

Miami-Dade Police Officers Joseph Vallejos, Youvani Sosa and Edward Brochu arrived on the scene and were able to pull the Aloma from the burning wreck before the overturned vehicle exploded.

Aloma, who was severely injured in the crash, was rushed to Kendall Regional Hospital in serious condition.

On Monday night, the Kendall Federated Home Owners Association honored the three police officers with awards and plaques for their heroism. Unbeknownst to the officers, the young man whose life they saved was also in the audience, along with his mother, Maria Christina Aloma. They also wanted to express their thanks and gratitude to the three heroes.

Aloma told the officers that he was able to make a full recovery from his injuries.

“I had no idea that he was gonna be here at all,” said Officer Joseph Vallejos. “The feeling you can’t explain, like, wow!”

“They show me that they really care. They have compassion and compassion for what they do,” said Aloma.

Our police, fire, and other emergency personnel do an incredible job that is not appreciated or thanked nearly enough. Their being there for people who are in dire times of need is something that we tend to take for granted. The story of Carlos Aloma’s survival and recovery thanks to the bravery of these men is a testament to how important their role in society truly is.
